Our Roost

Just to get the blog started, I thought I would give you a quick preview of our nest.  You can get a 'feel' for my style of decorating.  I intend to go into more details in my blog posts about how I decorate in-style in-expensively.  About 90% of my furniture has been refinished or restored by my husband and me.  At auctions, estate sales and yard sales we like to purchase the furniture that is in a thousand pieces (not literally but sometimes it seems like it) and bring it back to life.  A lot has been inherited, I am the one grabbing onto anything from the family with a history.  I love for the items in my home to have memories and meaning.  Most everything else comes from eBay, Craig's List, Goodwill, Target, TJ Maxx/Homegood or has been crafted by me.

Here is our entrance/foyer:

I am intending to 'redo' the buffet.  I have an idea I want to try that involves the Annie Sloan crackle finish.

The dining room:

I have a curtain idea in my head, re-purposing some Ballard Design burlap curtains I purchased on eBay.  Future project #1001, you can see the curtain rod in the corner waiting.

The living room peek:

Notice I purposely just gave you a peek.  I have the most gorgeous french cane back sofa, chair and rocker in here but the cushions were covered in the most hideous blue stripe.  I purchased them at an auction for get this, $105.00 for the set.  I didn't just do a happy dance I, according to my husband, might have hurt a few people with all my jumping around.  I am in the process of painting it with Annie Sloan chalk paint, to the horror of my husband, he likes original wood.  Also, I am going to attempt doing the cushions myself.  I will post with the whole process once finished.

The master bedroom:

I just finished (for now) the master bedroom, but still have a few projects in the works.  I have a group of 10 sepia tone southern homes prints that I purchase at an auction, I know, at least 10 years ago.  They will finally find their home above my bed.  I am trying a mod podge idea on them rather than just framing them.  If it goes how I have it in my head you will get to read about it in a post.  Also, didn't show the alternate view because I hate to admit we have the big black box on the wall.  I have read many a blog post discussing the pros and cons of a tv in the bedroom.  I love to curl up on my big king bed and watch an old movie.

Taryn's bedroom:

When it came to Taryn's room I let her choose the room color.  All I could think of was how I was allowed to make my own decorating decisions at about the same age.  So imagine my surprise (horror--no not really) when she wanted pink.  We found the Cynthia Rowley quilts at TJ Maxx.  She immediately said it had the most perfect color of baby pink for her walls.  I could have hugged her because that was what I was thinking!

Guest bedroom/craftroom/office--the room with many purposes:

I was not particularly thrilled with how this quest bedroom turned out.  I love everything but the Pottery Barn duvet and shams I purchased on eBay.  Don't get me wrong they are a lovely muted vintage brown and yellow, but this  has not turned out the way I envisioned it.  YET!  I still have some tweaking to do.

I love my walk-in closet converted to a home office.  I will do a future post about all it's features.

Finally, a peek at my husband's pride and joy--The Theater Room:

Sorry about the lousy picture.  Black out curtains and low watt lighting do not make for good picture taking.  It is literally a cave in there, but he loves it!  When we went looking for homes his only requirement was to have a room big enough for his remote control screen.

A couple of pictures of our back patio:

With 100+ temperatures here in middle Tennessee everything is looking a little wilted.

Hope you enjoyed the quick tour, I will be updating with before and after photos as I add new posts.
